If you are the proud owner of a GoPro (or similar such as the Sony Action Cam or the Kaiser Baas Sports Cam) you'll be all too familiar with a few problems.

Yes these baby-cams have revolutionised some things that used to be the province of the big networks and production companies with their super dooper (and expensive) lipstick cams etc, such as shooting footage and stills from drones and other remote controls, motocross bikes, push bikes, 4 wheel drives and even skis, boats and underwater via snorkelling / scuba.

We even fitted one to Budweiser The Dog!

But these very environments cause a completely different set of problems than normally faced with a 'standard' video camera.

Not the least of these is the sheer amount of camera shake followed by distorted footage due to the 'rolling shutter' effect of these cameras. Also in the equation is fish eye distortion, and who hasn't missed that the camera wasn't exactly level when shooting? Or you need to flip video 180 degrees as the camera could only be mounted upside down.

Of course standard issues do pop up; incorrect white balance, saturation, contrast and brightness as well as framing mishaps and many of these problems can be addressed by using a good video editing package. For some people though, their GoPro or whatever is the only video camera they have and they don't want to spend hundreds on software - they just want to correct their footage!

This is where ProDad Prodrenalin comes in. All of those things mentioned above plus colour correction etc come in a handy bite size package that sells for only USD$49. And to make it even easier, a whole bunch of camera profiles are already built in to match many of the popular action cams.

And its pedigree is without question; the stabilization engine to get rid of the jitters and judders is the very same one licenced to many of the top of the range video editors publishers / developers, and developed by ProDad themselves for the Big and Grown Up Mercali program.

The program is easy to use too. Simply follow your nose in effect with separate stages to setup the different elements of correction before rendering out to a new file. And that rendering is deceptively fast. The clip shown here which as you can see from the still shots was purposely quite distorted is 9 minutes long and was completed in less than 15 minutes (on a Dell 5 core with 4GB RAM).
There is a fully working trial version of Prodrenalin available at www.prodad.com.
